The CAFO Improvement Fund will cover 60% of a project with positive improvements to water quality, with the applicant being responsible for the remaining 40%. The funds are capped at $1 million per owner/partnership. The fund is focused on improvements to soils, water, and air quality and any projects in those areas will be considered. However, projects focusing on manure and nutrient management are given priority.
Since the fund’s inception, dairymen have built extensive manure treatment systems, improved current processes, distributed nutrients more precisely and to new acreage. It is our hope to learn from these projects and help identify the projects with the greatest beneficial impacts to share across the industry.
