Dear Friends, Greetings from Idaho! Being in Idaho is a good reminder of how immigration affects all communities. From inside the D.C. beltway, it's easy to forget. But Idaho has been transformed by immigrants and refugees. Idaho has a major dairy industry. A lot of the milk, cheese, yogurt, and butter in your kitchen comes from here. But there has been a major worker shortage, at near-crisis levels for many dairy farmers. The immigrant and refugee community have made a tremendous difference. They work hard, filling crucial jobs that would otherwise go undone. And perhaps more intangible, but just as importantly, they bring new life, vibrancy, and energy to this community. While there are many ways that Idaho is special, this is not one of them. Similar versions of this story have played out in communities across the country. Labor Shortage Petition

As we head into the new year with a new Administration and Congress in Washington DC, immigration reform continues to be our main focus at the Idaho Dairymen's Association. The Members of the IDA are actively working to highlight the need and support for immigration reform with our congressional delegation. Our Members have a goal of collecting at least 10,000 signatures on the below petition outlining the needs for immigration reform. Our request is that each of you sign the petition below and encourage five other people to fill out the petitions by the end of February so they can be prepared for delivery to our congressional offices. Maintaining a vibrant rural Idaho economy is dependent on securing sound, sensible, logical and socially responsible immigration reform. Dairy Worker Training and Safety Specialist

Position:  Dairy Worker Training and Safety Specialist The Idaho Dairymen’s Association (IDA) was established in 1924 to protect Idaho’s dairy farm families through legislative, legal and environmental leadership. IDA represents all of Idaho’s more than 500 dairy farm families and has a focus on efforts that align with dairy consumer and customer expectations surrounding economic, environmental and social stewardship. The latest of these efforts is the Idaho Dairy Safety Initiative, a collaborative effort between the Idaho Dairymen’s Association and Idaho’s processor community, which focusses on the training and safety of Idaho’s dairy workers. The IDA is searching for a Dairy Worker Training and Safety Specialist who will work closely with Idaho producers, processors, cooperatives and allied industries to manage the coordination and delivery of verifiable, on-farm, worker training and safety programs.  This is a full-time position and will be located in Twin Falls, ID.
