Six Idaho dairymen formed High Desert Milk, Inc. as a cooperative in 2001 to vertically integrate their operations. The company began producing milk powders from their Burley, Idaho facility in 2008. A 2012 expansion added the capability to manufacture butter and buttermilk powder. High Desert currently employs 110 people. High Desert offers a variety of sizing for milk powders: 25-kilogram bags, 2,200-pound totes, and 3,200-pound totes and can produce low-, medium- and high-heat nonfat dried milk, skim milk powder, and buttermilk powder. The company receives and processes all milk the day it is delivered, allowing High Desert to produce a quality, low-spore, heat-stable product that can be used in a variety of applications, including infant formula.
